London has cooled down considerably since our last post, but we were lucky enough to have some days of annual leave left to use up, and so planned a mini break and spontaneous adventure.
We didn’t want spend too much time on the motorway, and so decided to go and explore parts of Kent and Sussex. M’s parents, who were visiting from Germany for a few days, joined us. The weather was glorious, and we followed the National Trust’s recommended dog friendly walks, so that Micro could also happily join the exploration.
The recommendations were brilliant, and with Micro on a long lead (so that he wouldn’t inadvertently jump off the cliffs), we enjoyed the sunshine, wind, waves and nature at the Seven Sisters. We even *finally* signed up for membership of the National Trust, something we have been wanting to do for years. With Brexit looming, and the possibility that we’ll decide to leave this island after 15+ years of living here, we really wanted to support what’s lovely in this country and leave with lots of good memories, should it come to that.
In Knole (with cricket game on the green, and as you can see below, with special – deer – challenges for golfers), we meandered around the golf course and walk ways.
Micro loved running around on Broomhill Sands beach (since Camber Sands isn’t open to dogs during the summer months), and we also strolled through the little town of Rye, where we stayed in a very charming little cottage in the middle of town. If you ever find yourself in that area, and if you look for a great, dog-friendly place to eat that has a quirky interior and really great food, try the Globe! We had a fantastic evening there, and found ourselves next to a Kiwi-British family who shared our love for classical music and happened to know a number of our friends and former musician colleagues in New Zealand. What a small world!
Have you been on mini adventures close to home? What have been your favourite explorations?
Meet the gang
Hello, we’re two expat friends (aka Tournesol and Tigerduck) and a dog (Micro-the-Dog, aka “the boss”). After living in London for 18 and 16 years respectively (or 5 years in the case of Micro), we’ve just made a leap of faith back across the channel and are building a new life in Munich. Thank you for reading our musings about the world, life, living with CFIDS/ME, music, crafts, dogs and other observations.
